FILTER Position:
Water is drawn from the pool via the skimmer through the skimmer basket (holding back leaves and large objects), through the pump basket (for finer leaves), through the special sand inside the filter (for dust etc.) and then back to the pool as clean water via the Aimflo.
BACKWASH Position:
Water flowing through the filter is reversed by entering the filter through the lower intake valve, in order to remove accumulated dirt from the filter sand, and is then expelled through the backwash outlet valve to the drain/rainwater channel.
RINSE Position:
To clean out the dirty water remaining in the top half of the filter after backwashing.
BYPASS/CIRCULATE Position:
This enables water to circulate from and back to the pool without going through the filter. It is used when the filter is faulty (clogged-up) or if large amounts of chemicals are required to be fed through the skimmer.
CLOSED Position:
It is used when the filter installed is lower than the water level in the pool. Sometimes additional gate valves and or non-return valves are required.
WASTE Position:
Dirt is vacuumed from the pool and expelled through the backwash outlet without going through filter (avoiding clogging up the sand). It is used when there is excessive dirt in the pool or when the pool has been standing without filtration or chemicals for long periods.
Switch off filtration.
Remove skimmer basket, clean and replace (ensure the vacuum lid is firmly in place).
Remove pump basket, clean and replace (ensure rubber lid seal is clean and pump lid firmly fastened down).
Switch off chlorinator (turn to zero).
Turn multiport valve handle onto "BACKWASH" position, and switch on filtration. Wait until water in spy glass (situated on side of multiport valve) clears. Switch off.
Select "RINSE". Switch on and run for 20 seconds. Switch off.
Select "FILTER" and switch on.
Switch on the chlorinator.
Attach vacuum brush to aluminium handle and attach vacuum pipe. Place in pool and clear air from vacuum pipe (by holding loose end in front of Aimflo). Plug into skimmer outlet. Proceed to vacuum pool floor. On completion, switch off filtration, unplug pipe from skimmer and repeat points 2 to 8.
POOL CLEANERS:
Automatic pool cleaners (Baracuda, Kreepy Krauly, etc.) can, in the case of a gunite pool with marbelite finish, only be put into operation after four to six weeks after installation. In the case of a pool with a fibreglass finish, the pool cleaner can be used immediately.
CHLORINATORS:
N.B. CHLORINATOR SUPPLIES CHLORINE TO THE POOL ONLY. ACID SHOULD STILL BE ADDED AS RECOMMENDED.
In the case of gunite pools, the chlorinator can only be activated after the marble plaster has cured for six weeks. With fibreglass pools, the chlorinator can be activated immediately. The pool builder will supply and add the correct amount of salt. Unless the pool is fitted with a Self-Cleaning Chlorinator, the cell should be cleaned regularly to ensure proper chlorination. Use the bottom part of a plastic coke bottle. Wearing appropriate protective gear, mix one part acid with ten parts water and leave cell in mixture for a few minutes, then hose off. NEVER use hard objects to clean the cell. A lollipop stick works well.
